Diva GIS - platform for basic GIS analysis and Ecological Niche Modeling
Easy to download the program, datalayers, tutorials, examples, etc. Only works on PCs. Does basic GIS (visualize data layers, put your points on a map, makes publication quality maps with things that you need like scale bars, compass rose, etc) and advanced stuff for ecological niche modeling (identifying areas which are probably suitable habitat based on the presence of your species at known localities). Most people do a combination of Diva GIS and MAXENT which also predicts ecological niche distribution. Maxent is likely more accurate, but harder to use. http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~schapire/maxent/
