Hi, here is what i found helpful to get started with R:
This is the first place to start.
I strongly recommend joining one of the mailing lists and to contribute by asking questions. You can search the archives of the mailing list first with your question and likely, it or something related to it, is already answered. Also the bioconductor mailing list is a good one to be a member of. Search your friends and see how's asked what in the past. For example i'm signing up for "R-sig-teaching SIG on Teaching Statistics using R", One recent post is this teaching R course in Ecology!
Here is another link that might be helpful. Its a QTL course that i taught at Cold Spring Harbor lab a year ago.
