Solar and Alternative Power for Remote Sensing Stations
A quick research synopsis of solar and other power sources for wireless mesh network based sensor systems.
Articles as I Research:
- Basics: Nothing special, but still a nice summary.
- Big Daddy 12W Panel. Perhaps for 40mi. Base Station.
- Smaller Portable Solar Panel.
- A LOT of Juice for $109 Retail.
- Another panel for $89.
We can use these for developing the first few. Eventually we'll want
some sort of OEM panel we can integrated for cheaper. Still these
panels alone are $25! Super Cheap.
It looks like there are a lot of panels available that can meet our needs. Really I'd like to find some with LESS power for less cost, but clearly they are out there if we have these bigger units.
Battery
I'm not going to worry too much about the battery. There are a LOT of batteries out there to meet our needs, so I'm just going to assume it's available, and luckily a little extra size/weight is probably OK for our situation.
Sensors
Next up we need to look at the available sensors. Once thats done we'll know what kind of interfaces the sensors need and we can take a look at system specs and make decisions about what hardware to use.
